EchoMarks Privacy Policy
EchoMarks is a bookmark and browsing-session manager developed by Neuralward. Its normal search and organization features run inside your browser. Optional AI semantic search is off by default and runs only when you configure a provider and deliberately begin a query with ^.
^ searches use the provider you select.1. Scope
This policy applies to the EchoMarks browser extension and the EchoMarks informational website. It explains what information the extension accesses, where it is stored, when it leaves the browser, and the controls available to you.
2. Information EchoMarks accesses
To provide its user-facing features, EchoMarks may access:
- Bookmarks: bookmark and folder titles, URLs, hierarchy, and identifiers.
- Browsing sessions: open-tab titles, URLs, favicons, window grouping, timestamps, and user-created session names.
- Extension preferences: appearance, search behavior, starred items, custom commands, color settings, and related configuration.
- Hidden-folder data: bookmark data that you explicitly move into EchoMarks' hidden-folder feature.
- AI configuration: the provider, model, and API key you enter.
- Search input: terms and semantic queries you type into EchoMarks.
EchoMarks does not request access to page bodies, passwords, form contents, cookies, email, contacts, precise location, financial information, or health information.
3. Storage and synchronization
- Session snapshots, recovery information, and AI credentials are stored in extension-local browser storage.
- Some preferences and saved extension data use the browser's extension synchronization service and may be synchronized through the browser account you have chosen, such as Google Chrome Sync or Microsoft Edge Sync.
- AI credentials are excluded from EchoMarks export files.
- EchoMarks does not operate a Neuralward account system or upload this extension data to a Neuralward database.
The browser provider's handling of synchronized extension data is governed by your browser-account settings and that provider's privacy terms, including Google's terms for Chrome Sync or Microsoft's terms for Edge Sync.
4. Optional AI semantic search
AI semantic search is optional, disabled until you configure it, and supplementary to EchoMarks' normal local search.
When data is sent
A provider request occurs only when a selected provider has a saved API key and you begin the search with ^. Searches without ^ continue to use standard EchoMarks search and do not contact an AI provider.
What is sent
For an explicit semantic search, EchoMarks sends the query and a compact candidate catalog of up to 500 bookmark or session items. Candidate data may contain titles, URLs, and folder or session context. URL query strings and fragments are removed before transmission.
Where it is sent
The request goes directly from your browser to the provider you selected. Your API key is included only as required to authenticate that direct request. Neuralward does not receive or store the request, catalog, response, or key.
Those providers process information under their own terms and policies. You are responsible for choosing a provider and API account appropriate for your data.
5. How information is used
Information accessed by EchoMarks is used only to provide or improve its user-facing bookmark search, organization, hidden-folder, session preservation, restoration, configuration, recovery, and optional semantic-search features.
Neuralward does not sell extension data, use it for advertising, build advertising profiles, or permit humans to review it. EchoMarks does not use analytics or tracking SDKs in the extension.
6. Data sharing
EchoMarks does not transfer extension data to Neuralward or unrelated third parties. Data may be handled by:
- Your browser provider when extension synchronization is enabled, such as Google for Chrome Sync or Microsoft for Edge Sync.
- Your selected AI provider when you explicitly perform a configured
^semantic search. - A successor organization if EchoMarks is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to applicable law and notice where required.
- Authorities when disclosure is legally required.
7. Retention and deletion
Extension data remains in local or Chrome-synchronized storage until you delete it, reset the extension, remove particular records, clear extension storage, or uninstall EchoMarks. API keys can be removed at any time in EchoMarks settings. Data already sent to an AI provider is subject to that provider's retention controls and policies.
8. Security
EchoMarks limits provider access to HTTPS endpoints declared in the extension package, keeps AI credentials out of exports, and removes URL query strings and fragments from semantic-search candidates. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure, so do not place highly sensitive secrets in bookmark or session names.
9. Your controls
- Use EchoMarks without configuring AI.
- Choose which supported AI provider, model, and key to use.
- Avoid
^to keep searches local. - Remove provider credentials from Settings.
- Delete sessions, bookmarks, hidden folders, and other saved extension data.
- Disable browser synchronization, clear extension storage, or uninstall EchoMarks.
10. Children
EchoMarks is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. Neuralward does not knowingly collect children's personal information through EchoMarks.
11. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when EchoMarks' functionality or legal obligations change. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date on this page and, where appropriate, in the extension or store listing.
